| Frequently
Asked Questions
What
do you mean by Interventional Pain
Management?
An effort to "intervene"
in the body's production and or transmission
of a pain signal to the brain. In
most cases, this means identifying
and treating the underlying cause
of pain and encouraging the healing
process, the pain is subsequently
reduced or resolved.
What
is minimally invasive?
A minimally invasive medical procedure
is defined as one that is carried
out by entering the body through the
skin, but with the smallest damage
possible.
How
long are the procedures, are they
painful?
All procedures are outpatient and
require only 15 minutes - 2 hours
to perform (depending on the type
of procedure). Every procedure is
performed using a local anesthetic
which numbs the skin; however, in
some cases an IV is inserted to give
a mild sedation to calm the patient
even further. The patient may have
some mild discomfort during the procedure,
but with the help of the local anesthetic
pain is very minimal.
Do
you see patient’s who have been
in auto or work related accidents?
Yes, we frequently treat work related
and auto accident patients. MISS understands
the importance of getting back to
work and resuming activities of daily
living after an auto accident or work
related injury. Our practice focuses
on reducing pain as quickly as possible
to get patients back to their normal
living situation soon after just being
seen.
Do
I need a referral?
A referral is not necessary for treatment;
however, if you are currently being
treated by a physician it is a good
idea to let him know that you are
planning to see one of the physicians
at MISS.
How
do I get an appointment or treatment?
All you have to do is call us at any
of our locations to set up an appointment.
The first visit will consist of a
full examination, review of tests
done and if a procedure is necessary
it will be set up. It is very possible
to have a procedure the very same
day; however, that depends on the
time allowed for the procedure and
the physicians schedule.
Does
MISS take my insurance?
We accept many insurances and will
work with patients who are out of
network. For more information on a
specific insurance company you may
call our billing office at (219) 836-7246.
Are
your treatments experiments?
No, all procedures done at MISS have
been tried and tested before they
are performed on any patients.
